Yamaha PW80 / BW80 Performance Intake Manifold – Flange Mount Carburetor

This performance intake manifold was designed for the Yamaha PW80 engine, including PW80-powered Yamaha BW80 builds.

The manifold replaces the factory side-mounted intake layout with a shorter, more direct intake path centered over the reed cage. The design uses a flange-style carburetor mount, making it compatible with a variety of carburetors that share the required mounting pattern and dimensions.

The manifold was developed and tested around a Nibbi PE17FL, but is not limited specifically to the Nibbi carburetor.

Internally, the carburetor outlet transitions into a 20mm runner that maintains its cross section through the majority of the intake before smoothly expanding to the factory reed cage opening. This keeps unnecessary intake volume to a minimum while still distributing the incoming charge across the reed cage.

This manifold started as a solution for my own BW80 after discovering it had been fitted with a PW80 engine. The first prototype successfully ran, tuned and rode, and the design has since gone through multiple revisions based on what I learned from the original.

The current version is printed from Fiberon PA612-CF15 carbon-fiber reinforced nylon and annealed after printing for improved mechanical and thermal performance.

Carburetor Fitment

This manifold was designed around the Nibbi PE17FL flange dimensions, but the flange-style mounting system allows other carburetors with compatible bolt spacing, flange dimensions and outlet size to be used.

Always verify your carburetor dimensions before ordering.

Carburetor, reeds, gaskets, mounting hardware and other engine components are not included unless specifically stated.

Important Fitment Note

This manifold was developed using an original Yamaha PW80 engine installed in a nearly 40-year-old Yamaha BW80. Vintage machines may have replacement engines, modified components, previous repairs, or other differences from their original configuration.

Every effort has been made to match the factory mounting locations and dimensions accurately, but minor fitting or adjustment may be required depending on the individual machine.

Testing & Performance

The original prototype has been successfully installed, run, tuned and ridden. The current revision incorporates changes learned through that testing and is undergoing final testing before release.

Final performance information, recommended baseline setup and measured RPM results will be added after testing is complete.
